IPU condemns terror attacks in Russia, UK
Dhaka: The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Tuesday strongly condemned the recent terror attacks at a metro rail in Russian and in front of the House of Commons in the United Kingdom (UK).
The century-old parliamentary organisation also expressed solidarity with Russian and British governments’ fights against the terrorism.
The IPU adopted a condemnation motion at its general session of the 136th IPU Assembly at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
Addressing on the motion, IPU president Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, "The IPU is always against terrorism as it shows zero tolerance in this regard."
Expressing shock over the incidents, Saber Chowdhury wished early recovery of the victims of the terror attacks in Russia and the UK.
Bangladesh parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, being the 136th IPU Assembly President, chaired the session.
The head of Russian delegation that joined the IPU assembly expressed his sincere gratitude to the IPU for its stance against the terror attack at St Petersburg metro rail.
He said Russian President Vladimir Putin has already instructed the law enforcement agencies to track down the attackers to bring them to book for the sake of a peaceful world.
Later, one-minute silence was observed in honour of victims of the attacks.
