New Delhi: Indian president Pranab Mukherjee’s wife Suvra Mukherjee died on Tuesday, said the Presidential Residence officials. She was 74.

‘It is informed with deep sorrow that First Lady Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning. She breathed her last local time at about 10:51am,’ said a statement.

Suvra Mukherjee, who had been ill for some time, was admitted to Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi with respiratory problem on 9 August.

Earlier, the hospital authorities said Suvra was also a heart patient and had been kept in the intensive care unit.
