This is the heart-warming moment a police officer picked up an elderly pedestrian and carried him to safety.

The pensioner was struggling to cross a busy highway in China using his two walking sticks, reports the Metro.

Irate motorists started to drive around him as he tottered across the 14-lane road in Sichuan Province.

However help was at hand as an officer rushed to his aid and gave him a piggyback. At first the pair were a little unsteady but they soon ran to the other side.
