Bengal Classical Music Festival 2015 begins Nov 27

Dhaka: The fourth installment of the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2015 will begin from November 27 for five consecutive days at Army Stadium in the city.

The festival this year is dedicated to Artist Qayyum Chowdhury, one of the most irreplaceable creative icons of Bangladesh, said Bengal Foundation on Saturday at press meet in a city hotel.

Qayyum Chowdhury deceased while addressing the audience on the third day of the Bengal Classical Music Festival - 2014.

The festival attended by numerous world-renowned classical musicians, will run from 7:00pm to 5:00am everyday at Army Stadium. People can enjoy the programme for free after a simple registration process.

Legendary Indian tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain and renowned flautist Jayaprada Ramamurthy will the key attraction of this year’s festival.

Carnatic vocalist Padma Vibhushan Balamuralikrishna will come to Bangladesh for the first time to attend the festival, Ronu Majumdar will perform flute with him.

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma (santoor), Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (flute), Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty (vocals), Pandit Suresh Talwalkar

(tabla), Pandit Ulhas N Kashalkar (vocal), Tejendra Majumdar (sarod), Ustad Rashid Khan (vocal), Rahul Sharma (santoor and vocal), Kaushiki Chakrabarty (kheyal, vocals), Uday Bhawalkar (dhrupad), Sameehan Kashalkar, among many others will attend the programme like last years.

Other first time artistes are - Shubha Mudgal and Shruti Sadolikar (kheyal, vocals), Wasifuddin Dagar (dhrupad), singing violin N Rajam and associates (Violin), renowned dancing couple Raja and Radha Reddy (Kuchipudi dance), Irshad and Sujaat Khan brothers, sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan’s niece Imrat Khan (surbahar), Ustad Sujaat Khan

(sitar), Jayanthi Kumaresh (Sraswati veena), Shubhayu Sen Majumdar (Esraj), Bombay Jayashri (carnatic vocal), Alarmel Valli (Bharatnatyam), Ganesh and Kumaresh Rajagopalan (Carnatic violin duo), and Karaikudi Mani and associates (mridangam).

A number of Bangladeshi artistes will also perform solo and in group at the festival, including Asit Roy (dhrupad, vocals), Warda Rihab (manipuri), Animesh Bijoy Chowdhury and Yosuf Khan (sarod).

Square Group, Brac Bank and Robi Axiata Limited is supporting Bengal Foundation to arrange the programme while Maasranga Television will

be the media partner.
