Rabindranath’s 76th death anniv observed in Bangladesh

Dhaka: The 76th death anniversary of the Bard of Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore, was observed in Bangladesh on Sunday.

Different organisations observed the day with elaborate programmes while various television channels, including NTV, aired many productions based on Rabindranath Tagore's works.

A tribute ceremony featuring a special lecture programme and a cultural event was held in the Bangla Academy's Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Ibraheem Hosein Khan was present at the programme as the chief guest while Director General of the academy Shamsuzzaman Khan delivered the welcome speech.

Prominent architect, Rabindranath researcher and environmentalist of West Bengal Arenendu Bandyopadhyay and Sudheshna Bandyopadhyay delivered lectures on "Environment, Architectural Culture and Rabindranath" while chairman of the academy emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman presided over the session.

Besides, Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy organised a discussion and musical programme titled 'Rabindranath and Bangabandhu' in the auditorium of National Music and Dance Centre marking the death of the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.

BSA General Director Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the discussion while educationist and researcher Hayat Mahmood attended the programme as discussant. The musical programme featured the solo, chorus song and recitation.

Channel i, a private satellite TV, aired a set of programmes throughout the day which began with a special morning show titled 'Nana Range Rabindranather Mala Gathbo' featuring songs, poems, recitation and discussion at 7:30 am.

'Tumi Robe Nirobe', directed by Mahbuba Islam Sumi, based on a story of Rabindranath Tagore was aired at 2:40 pm while prominent Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya rendered songs at a programme 'Robir Chhaya' from 7.50 pm.
