Book fair sees holiday crowd

Dhaka: Book lovers thronged the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Friday, the weekly holiday in Bangladesh.

It was a double selling day for book sellers as there was a huge crowd in the fair to collect their favourite books.  

A long line was seen at the entrance of the fair and every stall was crowded as the number of visitors as well as writers was high on Friday.

Book sellers were happy as they could sell double books than the previous days, according several stalls.

Hasan Jayedi, publisher of ‘Parl Publication’, said, ‘I had been passing days amid tension till Thursday as there was no enough bookworms in the fair. But today, I’m happy seeing a lot of booklovers and buyers.’

Lima Akter, a book seller of ‘Moala Brothers Publication’, said usually Friday and Saturday catch huge readers as they can manage time for the fair on the holidays.

Kamrul Islam, a businessman, said he along with his family members came to the fair on Friday as he was free today and his children got excited to visit the fair.

Nobles, articles, short stories and history books, and the books of prominent writers are being sold too much and people are interested to buy new writers’ books too, said book sellers.

According to the information centre at the fair, 33 new books hit the book fair on Friday.

Some 406 publishers are selling their books in 649 stalls.
