Dhaka: Yellow, the colour of spring in Bangladesh, touched the Amar Ekushey book fair at Bangla Academy in Dhaka on Saturday, the first day of the Bangla month of Falgun.

Women, children and people from different strata floored the areas around the book fair, including Suhrawardi Udyan, Ramna Park, Shilpakala Academy and Shaheed Minar on the first of spring, known as the king of seasons in the country.

Women and children were mostly attired in yellow and decorated with flowers to signify the advent of spring.

Publishers in the month-long book fair said the sale of books increased several times on Saturday with the surge in visitors.

‘We experienced such a huge sale for the first time today in this year's book fair,’ said Agami Prokashani proprietor Osman Gani.

He hoped that they will have a good sale tomorrow too because of Valentine's Day.

Meanwhile, more than 150 new books arrived in the fair today, the 13th day of the annual event of Bangla Academy.

A completion of general knowledge was held for children in the fair on Saturday morning.

A discussion on 'Practice of Liberation War : From Past to Present' was held on the main stage of the fair in the afternoon.

Noted writer Prof. Sanat Kumar Saha presided over the discussion while Prof. Mesbah Kamal presented a keynote paper.

Historian Professor Syed Anowar Hossain, Mohammad Selim and Dibyaduti Sarkar took part in the discussion, which was followed by a cultural function in the evening.
