Jamalpur: The two-day annual ‘Astami Snan’, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindu community was celebrated with due religious fervour in the Jamalpur on Thursday.

President of Astami Snan, Mela O Puja Udjapan Committee Prodip Kumar Som said thousands of Hindu devotees from different parts of the country arrived in the district to observe the religious festival.

He said peaceful atmosphere has been ensured to help the devotees to perform this bathing ritual.

The bathing in the old Brahmaputra began at 7.30 am Thursday.

A two-day Austami fair began in the Doyamoyee temple area in the town to mark the occasion.
