Alliance Française de Dhaka has arranged a solo art exhibition titled Eternal Existence by artist Sourav Chowdhury at its La Galerie.

The inauguration of the exhibition will be held on Friday, 22 April 2016 at 5:30pm.

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited managing director Rupali Chowdhury will be present on the occasion as the chief guest while Gallery Cosmos director Tehmina Enayet, eminent artist Biren Shome, and renowned art critic Moninuddin Khaled will attend the inauguration as special guests.

Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka Bruno Plasse will preside over the opening ceremony.

Sourav Chowdhury was born in Rajshahi in 1987. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Painting and did his master's in the same subject from the University of Development Alternative (UODA).

The instinctive similarity of human nature from the primitive era to modern time has always amazed him. Not that the gloomy, ghastly and grim qualities of human nature do not exist in his cerebration, but Chowdhury tries to bring lots of positive energy by using bright colours and the liveliness of the figures to create a pleasant vibe in all of his artworks.

For the last six years, Chowdhury has been working on a series of works titled ‘Civilisation’ creating an environment of fantasy where mythological characters emerge in a playful mood that he tends to overlap with primitive cave paintings.

Another series called ‘Eternal Existence’ is also about fantasy where the utopian gesture comes from his innate contemplation.

He picks his figures from the Bengali folk art and draws them with the same motif, the manipulation happens as a twist in the spatial overlapping with primitive cave art figures where the juxtaposition of the two seems to haunt one another.

He always tries to bring forward his dedication, hard work and passion for creating images on paper so that the intricate details of line and form create a depth of euphemism in his works. There are thirty five artworks to be displayed in the exhibition.

After the inauguration, the exhibition will be open to all till Friday, 9 May 2016 from Monday  to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to 12:00 noon) and (5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
