Jyoti: A tale of father-daughter relationship
The loving relationship a father and a daughter share never gets old. The bond never loses its colour and appeal. With time, tiny daughter grows up, father grows older, but the memories remain fresh and replayed repeatedly in the father’s mind.
Kajal Sharif, a professor of North South University and writer, had many memories of her little daughter growing up with him in Pittsburgh, USA. He reminisces about many of these memorable events in a book recently was published titled ‘Jyoti’, telling us about how his only daughter, Maysoon, was raised happy, curious, and confident.
In this book, the author has attempted to paint a picture of Maysoon’s childhood from his memories in plain language. The book printed on high quality papers includes some colour photos of little Maysoon in her early years. The book has nine chapters, containing several children’s stories, which are favourites of all children across the world. These are Tikki Tikki Tembo, Why the Crab has No Head, How the Frog became the King of Rivers, How did the Tingians Learned to Farm, and Loku.
The memories Kajal Sharif shared with us include some amazing and charming episodes that will make every father think about all the interesting things happened with his own child.
Since Kajal Sharif was a professional in the USA, Maysoon grew up there and the background of most of the stories is in that country.
However, her brief visits to Bangladesh also produced interesting interactions with her relatives in Bangladesh and were captured nicely in the book.
The book has the essence to become a favourite of all fathers having young children. Children and their non-resident Bangladeshi parents will also like the book. The book will make any reader reminisce about their own childhood and their memories with their parents.
In the introduction of the book, the author stated that no rules were followed in writing this book. Everybody loves to talk about his or her own children. The book was an attempt to capture his stories with Maysoon.
