Dhaka: Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) organised a discussion to commemorate Late legendary Bangladeshi author Syed Shamsul Haque on October 7, 2016.

Teachers and students participated in this event where the life of Syed Shamsul Haque and his works were discussed in brief, said a press release.

Two of his poetic-dramas – Payer Awaj Pawa Jay (Footsteps, heard), and Nuruldiner Sharajibon (Entire Life of Nuruldin) – were discussed concisely in the programme by the university faculties Jamilur Rahman Khan and Ahmed Tahsin Shams respectively. Both faculties conversed on the aesthetics of art where Shamsul Haque triumph over, and talked about Haque’s approach of universality being rooted.

Karin Paulina Rozario set sail with her welcome speech. A short documentary was screened at the outset on the word-magician and pen-maestro of Bengal— Syed Shamsul Haque.

Father Subas Adam Pereira, CSC, Registrar and Chairman of the Department of English Language and Literature, was the chief guest in this programme.

Md. Abdul Goffur was the secretary, and Md Mustakimur Rahman was the convenor of the programme. The session started at 3:30pm and ended at 5:30pm with a brief performance of ‘Patabahar’ university musical band on ‘Hayre Manush Rongin Fanush’ written by the prolific writer Syed Shamsul Haque.

It is to be mentioned that Syed Shamsul Haq was a Bangladeshi poet, lyricist and writer who died on September 27, 2016. He was awarded Bangla Academy Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to Bangla literature.
