‘Open discussion’ to popularise Bangla films on Sunday

Dhaka: A day long open discussion will be held at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) gallery from 9am to 5pm on the topic ‘How Bangla Film can make a well known appearance in the international market as well as in international festival’ on Sunday.

The discussion programme will be organized by Monaco based International Emerging Talent Films Association (IEFTA) as a part of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) festival.

The organizers said that the aim of the discussion programme is to introduce young and promising film with the international film personality and film makers.

Film maker and media personality Samia Jamal will work as coordinator  of the discussion.

Film-makers, researchers, government officials, volunteers of the festival and students will attend the discussion.   

Besides, some local, international, short and independent, women making films will be screened simultaneously at the different venues of DIFF.

The venues are the main auditorium and Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Natioanl Museum, Public Library, AFD, EMK Center and Star Cineplex.

With the slogan ‘Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society’, the Dhaka International Film Festival began at the National Museum auditorium on 12 January to cater to the city’s film lovers.

Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the 10-day festival while information minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as special guest.

A total of 166 films from around 67 countries, including Bangladesh, are being screened at the festival.

The festival will also feature workshops and a competition for Asian and Australian films.

Besides, a two-day conference on ‘Third Dhaka International Conference on Women in Cinema 2017’ was held at the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka from January 14 and 15 while a 13-day exhibition of Iranian painter Sarah Hojjati began at Shilpangon Art Gallery on January 8.

The exhibition is open for all but tickets are mandatory for enjoying the films.

Both the film festival and exhibition will end on 20 January.
