The Bangla Academy Literary Award-2016 was announced in seven categories on Monady afternoon, ahead of the Ekushey Book Fair beginning February 1.

Abu Hasan Shahriar received the award for poetry and Shahaduzzaman in kotha sahitya (literature).

Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy, announced the names of the winners on Monday at a press conference at the academy.

Among others, Morshed Shafiul Hasan got the award in translation works, M A Hassan got the award for his work on the Liberation War, Bangladeshi veteran writer Noorjahan Bose in the biography and travelogue category and Rashed Rouf for juvenile literature.

No awardees were announced for drama and science, technology and environment due to lack of significant work under these genres.
