A solo painting exhibition titled ‘An Eternal Journey’ by artist Nazmul Haque Bappy has begun at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka. The Inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on 27 January.

Actor, director and writer Mamunur Rashid, actor and singer Tahsan Khan and  Prof. Nasreen Begum of Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Dhaka attended the opening ceremony as special guests. Alliance Française de Dhaka Director Bruno Plasse welcomed the guests and also presided over the session. Around 30 paintings are put on display at La Galerie.

Though Oriental art was invented in China and Japan, with the great contributions from Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Abdur Rahman Chughtai and other prominent artists, this form of art was introduced in the Indian subcontinent. Oriental style was mainly based on watercolour washing method. It has inherent or partial similarity between Oriental culture and medium that is both powerful and emphatic.

Nazmul Haque Bappy’s paintings exhibit mountains, nature, animal and blend Oriental culture with realism to create a new form. He also tries to blend European style with his own style to make something very refreshing. Nature and its emotional ability to swerve, birds, rivers, sea, growing shadows of trees, leaves, sound etc. are the main aspects of Bappy’s paintings, which have been done with Chinese patterns employing special types of ink and colour. A total of 30 paintings are being exhibited in the exhibition.

Bappy accomplished his MFA degree with 1st class from Department of Oriental  Art at University of Dhaka and presently he is doing PhD on ‘Chinise Traditional Painting’ in University of Beijing in China.

He has so far achieved several important awards, including the departmental best award 2011, best medium award 2008 and Berger young painter award 2009.

The exhibition will be open to all till 4 February 2017 at  La Galerie from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
