Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said there is no traffic jam on highways across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

‘In some places, vehicles were seen plying slowly due to heavy pressure of cattle-laden trucks. However, it lasts for a few minutes. I won’t call it a tailback,’ he said.

He was talking to reporters during his visit to Mohakhali bus terminal in Dhaka.

Quader also claimed that the country’s roads and highways have been made fit for vehicular movement to ensure smooth journey for homebound people ahead of the eid.

‘Even some roads were repaired for 5-6 times,’ he said.

The highway police and other law enforcement agencies were working on highways for maintaining traffic situation, he said.

He asked journalists to refrain from publishing news on traffic gridlock, saying it only creates panic among people.

The minister also urged people to help police arrest those involved in charging extra fares from passengers for their Eid journeys.
