Habiganj clash leaves 1 dead
Habiganj: A man was killed and 40 others injured in a clash over occupying a jal mahal (water body) at Monduri village in Baniachang upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased is Jonab Ali, in his forties, a resident of the village.
Baniachang police officer-in-charge Nirmalendu Chakrabarty said there had been a longstanding dispute between former chairman of Monduri union parishad Shamsul Huda and Mahtab Khan of the village over the ownership of the water body.
The clash ensued at about 9:00am on Saturday when the followers of the two groups went to the water body for catching fish.
The both groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other that left Jonab, a follower of Shamsul, dead on the spot and 40 people from the both sides injured.
On information, police recovered the body. The injured were admitted to sadar hospital.
