Dhaka: Seventeen people, including six members of a family, were killed and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gopalganj, Chuadanga, Magura and Munshiganj districts on Saturday.

In Gopalganj, six members of a family and another person were killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a battery-run three-wheeler, Easy-bike, on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Sadar upazila in the morning.

The deceased are Khokon Sikder, 45, his wife China Begum, 40, his mother Katebunnisa, 70, his son Shakib, 28, and two daughters Eti, 7, and Aniya, 16, of Teligati village in the upazila and the Easy-bike driver Delwar.

Sadar police officer-in-charge (Investigation) Selim Reza said the accident took place at about 10:00am at Shibpur, leaving six passengers of the three-wheeler dead on the spot and five others injured.

One of the injured died on the way to hospital.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In Dhaka, five people, including two women, were killed and 25 others injured as two buses collided head-on on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Kelia area in Dhamrai upazila in the afternoon.

Three of the deceased are Abul Kalam Azad, 57, Sumaiya Khan, 17, hailing from Faridpur district, and Kotu Miah, a bus driver.

Rezaul Karim, officer in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station, said the Dhaka-bound ‘Bikash Paribahan’ bus collided with the Faridpur-bound ‘Sara Paribahan’ bus in the area at about 1:30pm, leaving five passengers dead on the spot and 25 others injured.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals in Dhamrai and the capital.

Meanwhile, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, Jamal, 25, was killed in another accident on the highway in Islampur area of the upazila.

In Chuadanga, a head-on a collision between a truck and a human hauler left two people dead on Chuadanga-Jhenaidah highway in Subdiya area of sadar upazila in the morning.

The deceased are Shafi Uddin and Khairul Islam.

Chuadanga sadar police officer-in-charge Liakat Hossain said the accident took place in the morning when Shafiuddin died on the spot and Khairul Islam and his wife were injured.

The injured were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors referred Khairul to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital. He, however, died on the way to the DMCH.

In Magura, a man was crushed to death by a speeding bus in Magura bus stand area of the district town at about 10:00am.

The deceased is Ranjan Mondal, 60, a resident of Naubhanga village of Mohammadpur upazila.

Munshi Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said the bus ran over Ranjan in the area while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue.

In Munshiganj, a passer-by was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Chhanbari on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Srinagar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 55, a resident of Dakkhin Paiksa village in the upazila.
