Shaheed Minar under strict security surveillance

Amid the growing political tension in the country, law enforcement agencies will be on strict monitoring and vigilance of the central Shaheed Minar area on Dhaka University campus on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on 21 February.
Along with the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials, plain-clothes police and members of intelligence agencies will be on high alert to ensure that everything goes right, said officials.
They said that a multi-layered security measures has been taken by the police while other forces will help them to monitor the situation strictly to avoid any untoward incident.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia advised the visitors to enter the Shaheed Minar premise through Palashi intersection and exit through Doel Chattar and Chankhar Pool on 21 February.
Meanwhile, RAB has already installed close circuit camera’s in the Shaheed Minar premises while the battalion’s striking force was kept ready for any urgency, said RAB director general Benzir Ahmed while visiting the security preparations at the Shaheed Minar on Thursday morning.
The RAB chief also said that 8,000 RAB officials were positioned across the country. There will be check posts installed in the major areas in the city, he added.
Law-enforcers will start working to tighten security at the Central Shaheed Minar from 7:00pm Friday on the eve of 21st February, the DMP commissioner said.
He said that the vehicular movements in the areas will be restricted from 7:00pm Friday to 2:00pm Saturday to help visitors pay homage to the language martyrs securely.
During a visit around the Shaheed Minar, it was seen that barbed-wire barricade was prepared in the entry and exit points around the area. A number of workers were seen busy in cleaning the premises while RAB and police officials were seen on duty there.
Meanwhile, the RAB 3 officials have kept their bomb disposal unit and dog squad ready who will work in swiping basis.
Civil team officials, along with dressed RAB officials were already deployed in the Shaheed Minar for close surveillance, said officials.
