Security tightened ahead of Durga Puja
Dhaka: Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said adequate security measures have been taken ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
‘Members of Police, Ansar and fire service will be deployed to ensure security of Puja Mandaps across the country. If needed, members of paramilitary BGB will also be deployed,’ he said while talking to reporters at the Home Ministry after a meeting on security of Durga Puja in the afternoon.
He said the Hindus celebrated Durga Puja peacefully last year. Law enforcers have been instructed to ensure security during Durga puja utilizing last year’s experiences, the Home Minister added.
Replying to a question, he said security will be ensured during Durga Puja keeping in mind the killings of the two foreign nationals as well as other aspects.
Meeting sources some 28,500 Puja Mandaps will be set up across the country, including 222 puja mandaps in Dhaka city.
Durga Puja will start on 18 October and it will be ended on 22 October through Idol emersion.
