Pabna: A priest of the local church escaped a murder attempt with injures at School Para under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna on Monday morning.

The victim is Luk Sarkar, 50, priest of ‘Faith Bible Church’ in the upazila and son of Bani Kanta Sarkar of Tala upazila in Satkhira district.

Victim’s wife Padma Sarkar said three young men came to their house in a motorcycle at about 9:00am to listen to sermons from her husband.

Hearing his screams from another room, Padma said, she rushed there and found her husband lying in a pool of blood and the youths fleeing the house.

Luk sustained injures in his throat as the miscreants tried to slaughter him with a sharp weapon, she said.

Local people first took Luk to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Pabna General Hospital.

Contacted, Ishwardi Police officer-in-charge Biman Kumar Das said, on information, police visited the spot and seized the motorcycle used by the miscreants from the spot.

Pabna superintendent of police Alamgir Kabir said they are trying to identify the criminals.

A case was filed in this connection.
