Bagerhat: Development of a country, a nation is measured with how the rule of law is experienced in practical life, said Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
No matter how much wealthy a nation is, it always should have proper rule of law to be considered a developed nation, he added.
Mentioning China and the United States of America, Surendra Kumar said, China is not considered a developed nation as it has no democracy, no rule of law. On the other hand, America is considered developed one, it is leading the world, no matter how much atrocious it is be.
He was addressing a reception he was accorded by Bagherhat Bar Council in the district on Thursday.
Sinha said, Britain is a small country, but it is enjoying special prestige.
‘People in our country can charge a government. If anyone can prove that he/she is being deprived of his rights, he/she can move the court. But in Singapore, Malaysia former Chief Justices are serving jails over trivial offences. There is no rule of law in those countries,’ he added.
Sinha said, ‘We can be a poor nation. But we are the best among the Muslim nations considering the practice of rule of law.’
