President hopes for peaceful celebration of Durga puja
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Sunday hoped that the Durga Puja will be celebrated across the country peacefully with the participation of all.
He said this when a seven-member delegation of Mohanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee, led by president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Kajal Debnath, met him at Bangabhaban.
President Hamid said Durga Puja is a common festival in Bangladesh and the festivals of different religions are observed here peacefully from the time immemorial, his press secretary Joynal Abdein told UNB after the meeting.
During the meeting, the delegation extended to the President the greetings of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindus that began on Sunday.
The delegation apprised the President that the Durga Puja is being celebrated in around 30,000 mandaps across the country peacefully in a festive mood.
The delegation invited the President to attend their Bijoya Sommelon.
Secretaries concerned to the President Office attended the meeting.
