Dhaka: Tenants of Nilkhet Working Women’s Hostel blocked Katabon-Nilkhet Road in the capital on Tuesday night protesting a move by the authorities to increase the seat charge.

They blocked the road at about 10:00pm and the blockade is still underway till the filing of the report at about 12:00pm.

Witnesses said the authorities of the hostel took a decision on 20 October to increase boarding fee by 100 per cent without prior notice.

The residents of Nilkhet Working Women’s Hostel blocked Katabon-Nilkhet Road in front of the hostel protesting the decision.

They chanted different slogans and demanded for decreasing the seat fee.

After an hour of the road blockade, hostel super Sabikun Nahar went to the protesters and assured them of steps to decrease the rent by 15 November.

The hostel dwellers are still on the road and they demanded assurances from higher authorities to withdraw their blockade.
