Near 2 lakh landless families received khas land: minister
Dhaka: The government allocated a total of 93,736.51 acres of khas land among 1,94,302 landless families across the country from 2009 to June 2015.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif came up with the statistics in the parliament on Wednesday replying to a scripted question from ruling Awami League lawmaker M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), according to a local agency.
The minister said some 73110.94 acres of land was allocated among 1,55,194 landless families during the previous regime of the present government from 2009 to 2013, while 20,625.57 acres of lands among 38,308 landless families as of June 2015 during the current government.
In reply to another scripted question from AL MP Didarul Alam (Chittagong-4), Sherif said the government has acquired some 3061 acres of land for the implementation of the Padma Bridge project.
An amount Tk 900 crore has so far been paid to 18,634 land owners against acquired their lands, the minister told the House.
Responding to a scripted question from AL MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury (Bhola-3), Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju told Parliament that the Department of Environment materialised a total of Tk 139.71 crore as compensation from 2262 organisations from July 31, 2010 to October 31, 2015 for harming the environment.
