Satkhira Medical College students postpone strike
Satkhira: Fifteen days after the enforcement to press home their demand for running indoor activities of full-fledged 500-bedded hospital, students of Satkhira Medical College on Saturday postponed their indefinite strike until 16 December.
Convener of the movement Alamgir Hossain made the announcement following an assurance from Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
He said they decided to put on hold the strike until 16 December as the minister assured them of meeting their demand.
The convener also threatened to resume their strike from 17 December if their demand is not met by this time.
Earlier, students brought out a procession on the campus on
Saturday morning and later they locked the administration building.
Shajahan Khan exchanged views with the striking students on the campus at noon and assured them of looking into their demand.
Local lawmaker Mir Mostak Ahmed Robi, deputy commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir and some local Awami Leaders were present at the meeting.
On 30 October, students of Satkhira Medical College announced to boycott classes and examinations for an indefinite period from 31 October to press home their demand for running indoor activities of full-fledged 500-bedded hospital.
On 4 April this year, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim inaugurated the 500-bedded Hospital of Satkhira Medical College (SMC).
