Drunk cop assaults journalist
Dhaka: An apprentice assistant superintendent of police (ASP) beat a journalist of a private television channel at the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka in the early hours of Friday .
The victim, Nur-e-Alam, works in the private television channel, Asian Television.
The Savar police ASP, Moshiur Rahman assaulted Alam as he was video-recording while police was conducting a raid at the Shahbagh intersection.
However, police said a team of patrol police stopped a motorbike with a press sticker on it and wanted to know the identities of two riders. They claimed themselves as an apprentice police officer, and a former Chhatra League leader.
Meanwhile, the apprentice police officer hit the cameraman when he went there to capture the raid.
The Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddiqque said the apprentice ASP also attacked police members, who were deployed in a police checkpoint, as they came to rescue the camera person.
Later, the Shahbagh police came to the spot and took Moshiur Rahman, and the former Chhatra League leader, Khairul Bashar, to police station.
Shahbagh police also filed a general diary in this connection.
Police said the motorbike riders were drunk.
The Shahbagh police also said the incident has been settled. The journalist did not file any case in this connection.
The detainees were handed over to Savar police.
