Ex-enclave people celebrate first-ever Victory Day
Dhaka: Residents of former enclaves have celebrated the Victory Day for the first time amid much enthusiasm on Wednesday.
According United News of Bangladesh report, several hundred people of recently dissolved Dasiarchhora enclave in Kurigram celebrated the 45th Victory Day chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan.
They thronged in Kalirhat Bazar with the red and green national flag and placed wreaths at the temporary Shaheed Minar in Kurigram in the morning.
Former Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee, Awami League and its associate bodies, different educational institutions, socio-cultural organisations also placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar around 9 am.
They stood there in solemn silence for a while as a token of respect for the martyrs.
Besides, prayers were offered in mosques, temples and churches, and discussions and cultural prorammes were arranged in addition to holding a rally.
In Panchagarh, former enclave dwellers are celebrated the Victory Day with various programmes.
A cultural programme was arranged at Mafizar Rahman College ground at ex-enclave Garati in sadar upazila marking the day.
In Lalmonirhat, residents of Bhitarkuti Banshpai(ex-enclave) celebrated the day by hoisting the national flag and placing wreaths at a symbolic Shaheed Minar in Sadar uapzila.
They also arranged a rally and discussion meeting marking the day.
Bangladesh and India officially exchanged 162 enclaves on 1 August, 2015. Thus, about 60,000 enclave inhabitants formally got citizenship of both Bangladesh and India under the Land Boundary Agreement 1974 signed by the two neighbours.
