Chittagong: Claiming himself innocent again, former Police Super Babul Akter on Tuesday said the mystery behind the murder of his wife, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, will be debunked through an investigation.
"Anyone can bring an allegation. But I'm innocent. The fact will come out through the investigation," he said.
The former police officer was responding to a query from reporters about the allegation of his involvement in the killing brought by his father-in-law after coming out of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) headquarters facing interrogation over the murder.
Babul Akter reached the CMP office around 3:30 pm and came out of the office around 8:07 pm after the interrogation by Mohammad Kamruzzaman, additional deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of CMP and the investigation officer of the case.
Talking to reporters, the IO said they talked to Babul Akter over different issues relating to the case and cross-examined information.
However, he did not disclose the information for the sake of proper investigation. "We'll press charges before the court in the case very soon," he said.
On June 5, 2016, unidentified miscreants gunned down Mitu at the port city's GEC intersection while she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus to Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.
On September 6, 2016, Babul Akhter was relieved from his service through a gazette notification issued by the Home Ministry.
