Elephant stamps 4 Rohingyas to death
Cox's Bazar: Four Rohingyas including a woman and three children were stamped to death by elephants on Saturday in Ukhia's reserve forest area near Balukhali Rohingya camp.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-charge (investigation) Md Roy Kislu told state news agency BSS that four Rohingyas including a woman and three children were stamped to death by a group of elephant when they were crossing through Ukhia's reserve forest area in Cox's Bazar blocked by temporary camps set up for the Rohingya refugee.
The deceased were Taslima, 32, Rumana, 11, Salma, 7, and Safuna, 2, he said. Three others Rohingyas were also injured in the incident, he added.
The wild elephant was trying to cross Balukhali camp at about 5:00am when the incident occurred, the OC said, adding Rumana and Salma died on the spot while Taslima and Safuna succumbed to their injuries on the way to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
The injured three Rohingyas were admitted at the same hospital.
