BPL5: Ticket-deprived fans pelt stones, footwear to counters
Sylhet: Agitated cricket fans pelted whatever they had instantly to the ticket counters at the Sylhet District Stadium on Wednesday noon as they did not get tickets for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20.
Some local witnessed allegedly said that the ticket seekers stayed in the long queue from Tuesday night.
On Wednesday morning the designated counters were opened and sold some tickets before the responsible personnel announced that all the tickets (Tk 200 and 500) for November 5 matches have been sold out.
Hearing that, ticket-deprived fans became agitated and pelted stones, footwear and other things while sellers were trying to close the counters.
Police reached to the spot to pacify the ticket seekers, but faced the same agitations until the law enforces counters with baton charge.
UNB Sylhet correspondent confirmed that there a lot of complaints about ticket scalping by local people, including advertisement of availability of tickets in some places where Tk 200 tickets are on selling for Tk 2000.
The 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 will begin at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) on November 4.
Defending champions Dhaka Dynamites will play against Surma Sixers Sylhet in the opener of the seven-team franchise tournament that will begin at 2pm while Rangpur Riders will play defending runners-up Rajshahi Kings in another opening day's match at the same venue starting at 7 pm.
On November 5, Surma Sixers Sylhet will face Comilla Victorians in the 1st match while Khulna Titans to meet Dhaka Dynamites.
