Govt slammed for its move to hike train fares
Dhaka: Ganasanghati Andolan on Tuesday criticised the government for its move to hike train fares when the petroleum price in the international market had gone ‘unbelievably low’.
Addressing a rally at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Ganasanghati Andolan Coordinator Zonayed Saki said, “We can get a barrel of oil for only $29 dollar instead of $120. It is the cheapest rate in recent times. But we can’t understand why the government is not adjusting the oil price rate in the local market, forcing the general people to pay extra money for production and transportation.”
If the railway authorities use its own resources and stop corruption, it would turn into a profitable sector, he added.
Firoz Ahmed, Abul Hasan Rubel, Taslima Akter and other leaders of the party were also present at the programme.
