Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Thursday  said the country’s medical colleges have 9,192 seats for students.

‘Of those, 31 public medical collages have 3,212 seats while 66 private medical colleges have 5,980 seats,’ the minister said while replying to a question from opposition bench member Begum Noor-e-Hasna Lily Chowdhury in parliament.

Mohammad Nasim informed the House that the government is considering increasing the number of seats for medical students.

Replying to another question from treasury bench member M Abul Kalam Azad, he said the government upgraded 287 upazila health complexes out of total the 424 facilities to 50-bed hospitals from 31-bed ones.

Programme on increasing number of beds at all the upazila health complexes hospitals is on going, the health minister added.
