Housewife brutally ‘tortured’ by husband, in-laws
Satkhira: A housewife was tortured mercilessly allegedly by her husband and in-laws after tying her hands with a tree in Aronggaccha village of Kaliganj upazila on Saturday.
Victim Mahfuza Khatun, in her thirties, daughter of Abdul Gaffar of Hazipur village in Shyamnagar upazila, was married to Ohidullah Gazi of Aronggaccha village 14 years back, police said quoting her brother Bablur Rahman.
The couple had been blessed with two daughters. Few days ago, Mahfuza went to her father’s house as the couple had a conflict over family matters.
Ohidul sent a divorce notice to Mahfuza recently and kept his elder daughter Tausia confined in a room. Later, Mahfuza came back to her husband’s house to know the matter.
Upon Mahfuza’s arrival on Saturday, Ohidullah along with his family members tied her hands with a tree and beat her mercilessly.
At one stage, she became senseless. Being worried over the issue, Ohidul along with his family members went into hiding, leaving Mahfuza in critical condition.
On information, police with the help of locals rescued her and took her to Kaliganj Health Complex.
Subir Datta, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said police arrested two sisters-in-law of Mahfuza—Masuma Begum and Marjina Begum—in this connection.
Police are trying to arrest others involved in the incident, the OC said.
Lavlu Molla, younger brother of the victim, filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station, accusing seven people, in the night.
