Dhaka City College closed indefinitely
Dhaka: Dhaka City College has been closed for an indefinite period following students’ demonstrations demanding a change in their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination venue.
Principal of the college Shahjahan Khan told United News of Bangladesh that they took the decision on Sunday evening. He, however, did not tell anything about the closure.
Earlier in the afternoon, some 400 students of the college blocked Mirpur Road from Science Laboratory to Kalabagan demanding a change to their designated examination venue Residential Model School and College in Mohammadpur for what they said it is far from their campus.
Vehicular movement on the road was disrupted following the demonstration, creating terrible traffic congestion on one of the busiest routes of the city, said Ruhul Amin Sagar, assistant commissioner (Dhanmondi Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Because of the disruption, people, especially patients in many hospitals in the area, suffered a lot, he added.
Meanwhile, agitated students withdrew their movement at about 8:30pm.
