Madaripur: A defamation case has been filed against The Daily Kaler Kantho editor Imdadul Haq Milon and three others for publishing a report on some Madaripur Awami League leaders.

Kajal Krishna Dey, general secretary of the district unit Awami League, filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday.

The other accused are Kaler Kantho reporters Haidar Ali and Taimur Faruk Tushar; and Madaripur correspondent Ayesha Siddiqua.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain summoned the accused to appear before the court on 24 February, said Babul Akter, a counsel of the plaintiff.

According to the case statement, the vernacular daily carried out a report titled ‘District AL leaders busy securing future’ on 2 February which tarnished the image of the unit president and general secretary and caused a financial loss of Tk 5 crore.

Meanwhile, general secretary of Mofassal Journalist Forum Abu Zafar termed the case ‘harassing’ demanded immediate withdrawal.
