9th wage board for journos demanded
Dhaka: Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) on Saturday demanded immediate formation of the 9th Wage Board for enhancement of salary scales for journalists and other workers of the newspaper industry.
The government should take immediate steps for announcing the ninth Wage Board, leaders told a meeting of the executive committee of BFUJ at National Press Club, a BFUJ press release said.
Chaired by acting president of BFUJ Jafar Wazed, the meeting was conducted by its secretary general Omar Faruk. The leaders also demanded to the owners of media to give allowance, declared by the government before Pohela Boishakh.
They also demanded a separate wage board for electronic media and trial of all journalist killings along with Sagor-Runi, the release said.
Demanding security for journalists, former president of BFUJ Monzurul Ahsan Bulbul spoke in the executive meeting.
BFUJ vice presidents of four divisions Shahid-ul-Alam, Pradip Bhattacharya Shankar and Manotos Basu, joint secretary general Amio Ghatak Pulak, Tapan Chakraborty, Mozammel Haque Hawlader and GM Sajal and Treasurer Madhusudan Mondal also spoke in the meeting.
Besides, acting president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Atiqur Rahman, presidents of Cox's Bazar Union Abu Taher, Khulna Zahid Hossain, Dinajpur Wahidul Alam Artist, Rajshahi Kazi Shahed, Bogra Amjad Hossain Mintoo, general secretary of Narayanganj Amjad Hossain Ponty and executive body members also spoke, the release said.
