Dhaka: The government with a view to providing financial support to marginal fisherman has so far registered some 14.28 lakh fishermen from 482 upazilas and brought 13.10 lakh fishermen under data entry system.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Sayedul Haque disclosed this in parliament on Sunday while replying to a question from treasury bench member Shamsul Haque Chowdhury of Chittagong-12.

‘We have taken photographs of 10.50 lakh fishermen and prepared 10.50 lakh identity (ID) cards for fishermen for this purpose,’ he said.

The minister said the government distributed 1,53,784.80 tonnes of food grains and Tk 192 crore, 23 lakh and 10 thousand among 3,84,462 fishermen families as financial support for five months during the 2015-2016 financial year, he added.

Meanwhile, the government is considering providing 30,756.96 tonnes of food grains and Tk 38,44,62,000 among 3,84,462 fishermen during the one month ban on catching mother hilsha fish in 2016.
