Bir Protik Taramon Bibi hospitalised

Mymensingh: Taramon Bibi, one of the two Bir Protik award winning female freedom fighters of the country, was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in Mymensingh on Monday as she fell sick with respiratory problems, reports local news agency.
Residential physician of the hospital Dr SK Apu said Taramon Bibi has been suffering from chronic lung deceases.
She was kept at the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital, the doctor added.
Taramon fought for the Mukti Bahini (Liberation Army) which was a guerrilla force that fought against the Pakistan military during Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971.
She joined the war from her village home in Shongkor Madhobpur of Kurigram.
She was in Sector 11 under the leadership of Sector Commander Abu Taher.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s government honoured her with the Bir Protik title in 1973, for her courageous role in resisting the Pakistan occupation force with weapons.
