Faridpur: Six young men have come to Bangladesh from Kolkata of India by riding bicycles to pay their tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement ahead of the International Mother Language Day.

The six young men, led by Chandan Biswas, embarked on the adventurous journey ‘Akkhorjatra’ arranged by Touch of Heaven and arrived in Bangladesh on Monday (15 February), reports UNB.

The other members of the group are–Angur Barman, Rahul Sen, Rajat Saha, Subrata Chatterjee, and Rensodel Manuel.

After reaching Faridpur district at about 9:00am on Thursday, the six adventurers placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the campus of Faridpur Government Rajendra College paying tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement.

Later they started for Manikganj.

Chandan Biswas, leader of the group, said, ‘We have ardent respect for each of the letters of Bangla language. That’s why, we named our journey ‘Akkhorjatra’.

Subrata Chattarjee said their journey will be fulfilled through placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on 21 February.

Mahabubur Rahman, principal of the college, said the six Indian young men came here by riding bicycles to pay respect to Bangla Language, and of them only one named Ransodel Manuel made his journey by running.

They will go to Dhaka by the same way, he said.

Earlier, on 14 February, the Indian group left for Dhaka from Kolkata Press Club by riding bicycles and running.

They reached Jessore on 15 February and Magura and Faridpur on 16 and 17 February respectively.

They placed wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar of each district and stood in solemn silence there for one minute.
