Dhaka: Students of Asha University Bangladesh blocked Mirpur Road in front of their university in Dhaka for about one and a half hours on Tuesday morning protesting the death of a student in a road accident on Monday, reports UNB.

Riazudding Tapu, who was 24 years old, a student of the university’s Business Studies Faculty, was killed as a police requisitioned minibus hit his motorcycle in the city’s Banani area at about 3:45pm on Monday.

Protesting the incident, some students of the university put on a barricade in front of their university at Shyamoli around 12:30 pm, halting the vehicular movement from College Gate to Shyamoli Cinema Hall areas.

Later, at about 2:00pm the students withdrew their barricade after some university teachers assured them of taking proper steps in the connection.

The organisers told reporters they have withdrawn the road blockade till Friday to observe what steps are taken against the police officials involved in the accident.

The bus that hit Tapu was running on the wrong side, and also violate the signal at the crossing, they alleged.

Though requisitioned, there were police officials inside the bus and proper actions must be taken against them, they demanded and threatened to go for tougher actions on Saturday if the demand is not met.
