Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday stayed the candidature of three more BNP candidates as they did not resign from the upazila chairmen posts ahead of the 11th national election.

The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice MD Khairul Alam came up with the order after hearing of separate writs filed by their opposition candidates, reports the UNB.

The HC also issued a rule asking the EC and the government to explain why the EC’s decision should not be declared illegal.

The candidates are Manjur Elahi of Narsingdi-3, Abdul Aziz of Natore-4 and Faruk Kabir Ahmed of Gaibandha-4.

Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque and Manjill Morshed stood for the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju for the state.

Now, the candidates will not be able to contest in election, said Shah Manjurul Haque.
