Women will require no quota in future: Chumki
Dhaka: State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki on Sunday said the existing quota system will not be required for women in the near future if the trend they are moving forward continues.
On the contrary, the quota system may be needed for men in the days to come, she predicted while addressing a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital, said a PID handout.
The Women and Children Affairs Ministry in collaboration with some non-governmental organisations arranged the programme ahead of the International Women’s Day that falls on Tuesday.
Chumki said the government is working sincerely to bring down the existing inequity of males and females to zero level by 2030.
Apart from reducing poverty of women and ensuring their education, the government is working to empower them, she added.
Many countries are following Bangladesh to take experience from it to empower their women, the junior minister said.
Women and Children Affairs secretary Nasima Begum also spoke at the programme.
