Teacher’s role must to keep students away from drug abuse: Nahid
Dhaka: Apart from imparting education to the students, teachers should also make attempts to keep their students away from drug abuse, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said.
‘I urge teachers to intensify their monitor on students’ behavior to supplement the efforts to protect our young generation from the aggression of drug,’ he told a discussion on the role of educational institutions to create anti-drug awareness at the Krishibid Institute of Bangladesh in Dhaka, reported BSS.
Senior Secretary of Home Ministry Md Mozammel Haque Khan, additional secretary of the Education Ministry AS Mahmud and Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof Fahima Khatun, among others, addressed the discussion with Director General of Directorate of Narcotics Control Khandakar Rakibur Rahman in the chair.
Nahid said, ‘We have to expand extra-curriculum activities for our children so that they could get opportunity to spend their some quality time. But most educational institutions in the Dhaka city lack adequate space for playing sports and cultural activities.’
Extra-curriculum activities significantly will keep students away from anti-social activities as well as taking drugs, he added.
Nahid said, ‘Parents and other family members should inquire the whole behavior of adolescent youths..... We all should look after our teenage boys and girls for ensuring secure and bright life.’
Other speakers stressed the need for expediting anti-drug awareness campaign in educational institutions to educate the people particularly young generation on harmful effects of drugs. The initiative of forming committee at educational intuitions will bring good yields to check drug abuse in the country, they added.
