ACC clarifies position over journalists’ entrance amid protest
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday clarified its position over recently imposed restrictions on newsmen’s entry there, calling the move as the outcome of ‘changes in information management system’ amid protests by the journalist community.
‘No restriction was imposed on journalists’ access into the commission’s office,’ an ACC statement said, a day after the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and other journalists’ bodies protested the commission’s decision.
The ACC, however, said the directive was issued as part of ‘some changes in the information management system’ of the commission, entrusting its public relations officer and the secretary with the task of providing necessary information to the newsmen.
It also acknowledged ACC obligation to provide information in line with the Right to Information Act 2009.
‘Besides, the commission also talks to the media people regularly as per requirement at the ACC Media Centre,’ the statement said.
