Dhaka: All the entrances to Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Udyan will be closed at 4pm on Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar, announced Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday.

Besides, people will have to leave the two venues of the capital by 5:00pm on the day, Additional Commissioner of DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Monirul Islam said while briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday, reported UNB.

Though there is no threat of any kind of subversive activity centring on the Pahela Baishakh celebrations, the measures were taken keeping in mind previous incidents to avert any unpleasant occurrence, he said.

The CTTU chief said no one will be allowed inside the two major venues of the Pahela Baishakh celebrations—Raman Park and Suhrawardy Udyan—after 5pm following the directives of the Home Ministry.

The decision was taken for the interest of the city dwellers, he added.

Pahela Baishakh will be celebrated on April 14 amid much fanfare, festivity and gaiety across the country.
