Dhaka: A woman suffered burns in an acid attack by two masked men in Rupnagar area of capital’s Mirpur in the early hours of Thursday.

The victim is Mahfuza Akhter Shubarna, believed to be in her thirties.

Police held Mahfuza’s husband Suruz Mia for his alleged involvement in the attack.

Suruz Mia, his 10-year-old daughter Rima Akhter, and, his sister-in-law Nilufar Akhter, who is around 28 years old, were also sustained minor burn injuries during the attack.

Shuborna said two men covering their faces hurled acid to her as she opened the door as someone knock on the door at about 6:00am.

Hearing screams of Shuborna, her husband, daughter and sister rushed into the room and also received minor injuries as they came to rescue her.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital police check-post in-charge Mozammel Haque said Suruz brought his wife to the hospital at about 7:00am.

Shuborna suffered burn injuries on her face and other parts of the body, said the police.

Police held Suruj as Shuborna brought allegation against him. Later, he was taken to DMCH police check-post.
