Chittagong: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said stern action will be taken against those who will try to create anarchy in the name of besieging Banshkhali upazila office.

The minister came up with the warning at a views-exchange meeting with local journalists after the inauguration of a new fire station in Boalkhali upazila at noon, reports UNB.

Earlier on Friday, the Committee to Protect Homestead and Graveyard in Gandamara threatened to lay a siege to the Banshkhali upazila office on Sunday wearing shrouds if the government does not cancel the Gandamara coal-fired power plant by 6:00pm on Saturday.

The Home Minister said there is no problem if they observe peaceful programmes but any chaos and anarchy in the name of movement will not be tolerated.

Asaduzzaman Khan said they are looking whether there was any vested quarter behind the movement and investigating who actually provoked the killings.

Responding to a question over the recent murder of online activist Nazimuddin Samad, the minister said it would not be right to make any comment at this stage of investigation.

Jagannath University student and online activist Nazimuddin Samad, 26, was killed by some unidentified assailants at Ikrampur of Sutrapur in the capital on Wednesday night. He was also the information and research secretary of Sylhet unit of Bangabandhu Jatiya Juba Parishad and an activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Manch.
