The mysterious newborn, who was found alive hours after Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) doctors declared him dead, finally died on Sunday morning.

‘The newborn baby was declared dead at about 11:00am. The premature baby, with 1.2 kilogram weight was suffering from many complications,’ DMCH deputy director Mushfequr Rahman told reporters.

The family of the baby later took him to the Azimpur graveyard and buried him at about 2:00pm, family members said.

Quoting doctors, the baby’s father Jahangir Alam told NTV that the baby was died in between 11:30pm to 12:00am, but the body was handed over to the family at about 11:00am on Sunday morning.

‘As there were no developments at the NICU and the ventilation was not working to bring back his breath, the doctors declared him dead,’ the father added.

The premature baby, with low physical profile and weight was born in the DMCH at about 12:30am on Saturday. Later, in the morning, doctors declared him dead.

When the family members took the body to Azimpur graveyard and was preparing for the burial, the baby started moving.

Seeing the mystery, the family rushed to the DMCH and the baby was admitted to the NICU of the hospital but, the infant was not breathing.

Admitting the mistake, DMCH director Brigadier General Mustafizur Rahman said that a four member inquiry committee was asked to furnish a report by five working days.

He also said that a protocol has been prepared in this connection on how and when a doctor can declare a patient dead and issue a death certificate.
