DNCC opens 2 public toilets in Dhaka
Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday inaugurated two public toilets in the capital to ensure better sanitation facility for the city commuters.
The female and disabled people friendly public toilets are in Tejgaon Satrasta T&T Gate and Hazi Moron Ali Road, that are equipped with separate chambers for males and females, locker, handwashing, shower and safe drinking water facility, electricity and CCTV camera, professional cleaner and female caretakers, reports UNB.
This is in continuation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed among Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), DNCC, Dhaka Wasa and Water Aid Bangladesh to ensure healthcare by the proper use of public toilets.
The toilets were formally inaugurated at a function in the capital, said a press release of WaterAid Bangladesh.
DNCC mayor Annisul Huq, Ambassador of Sweden in Dhaka Johan Frisell, managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWasa) Taksim A Khan and regional head of WaterAid Md Khairul Islam were, among others, present at the event.
Annisul Huq said a total of four modern toilets have already been set up and another 14 are under construction. ‘We have planned to build some 100 toilets across the city,’ he added.
A study of WaterAid in 2011 revealed that more than half of the city toilets are not in minimum serviceable condition and they do not have women- and child-friendly facilities.
