Bangladeshis in Maldives urged to exercise caution
Dhaka: Bangladesh High Commission to the Maldives has urged the Bangladesh community there to remain calm and be cautious following the current situation.
The High Commissioner had a detailed discussion with the Bangladesh community on Wednesday briefing them on the situation and requesting them to remain calm, said a media release from foreign ministry on Thursday.
Shahin Mia, a Bangladeshi national, was stabbed dead in a Café on 22 March in Male, the capital of the Maldives while another Bangladeshi, Bilal, was found dead in a remote island of Toordhoo on 23 March.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Male immediately took up the matter with the authorities concerned of the Maldives.
High Commissioner Rear Admiral Kazi Sarwar Hossain had a meeting with Maldives President Abdulla Yameen about it who directed the home minister to enhance security.
He is also in constant touch with the home minister and the Police Commissioner of the Maldives on the issue.
Besides, the Bangladesh High Commission in Male is maintaining contact with the Bangladesh community in the Maldives, and the situation is also being monitored by the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.
